July was moving month …. And the Marvel Exhibition.

Life is good folks. So…..

Moving: This is where owning little comes into its own. Although moving can be fun I’ve yet to find a way of packing and moving all your stuff out of one place and transporting it and unpacking it at another that is. This was seriously one of the easiest moves I’ve made though … and since childhood … there had been many so I have a lot to compare it to. There are a lot of benefits to keeping a relatively simple and organised home with fewer possessions but this is absolutely one of them and the ease of this move was a dream. Finally unpacking the backpack and suitcase I’d been living out of for a year and a half and having my own bathroom…. Also joyous.

Just for fun: Recently I found out that World Embroidery Day falls in July and so off I trundled to see the skills on display at their exhibition. Am I an embroiderer? Sadly no, but I knew there was also a workshop happening and I wanted to try it out, see if my patience levels had grown sufficiently over the years to consider it. I can happily report back that they have. Sitting amongst a bunch of women, talking, laughing, learning and sewing turned out to be a morning high in the pleasures of slow living and bliss. I like many others can find meditation a challenge – though I continue to make the effort some days with more success than others. What I have found is that there are other activities in life that will slow you down and give you that meditative, calming experience. Embroidery it turns out, is one of them. Trying one of the most basic of stitches and designs I walked away feeling pretty chuffed with my accomplishment. Will I explore this more at some stage. I think so, yes. If you’d like to give this a try yourself regular classes are run for beginners and up. Children and adults. You can find the Queensland Embroidery

Guild here: www.embroiderersguildqld.org.au

If you go, tell Lee I said Hi and thanks… Alternatively search the Google for your local Guild.

The highlight of the month though for my geeky nerd heart was the Marvel Exhibition at the QAGOMA. Costumes. Movie excerpts. Characters. Sets. Movie Paraphernalia. Special effects. It was nerd paradise. Literally. Captain America is shown here but the whole gang was there. Props. Costumes. Behind the scenes. Art work from them all. Hulk. Avengers. Asgard. Guardians of the Galaxy. Dr Strange. Spiderman. Antman. .. you name it. If they were part of the Universe they were there.

July was the month of getting our new home in order. Days in the Winter sun and walks. I thought I’d try out laser removal for a veeeery old tattoo I have.  Verdict: a bit ouchy but not too bad. There was definitely a difference but overall success or not will not be evident for a while and since treatments can be roughly no closer than 6-8 weeks apart at the earliest this is not a quick process. We shall see how it all turns out.
