June Wrap Up

June marks the beginning of Winter in Australia but as for many parts of the country this early in the season, “Winter” is a fairly arbitrary tag at this point. I was enjoying the warm weather and the feeling of being in one place for a time. The overall goal for this year was “Build” as in a new and improved base going forward. Better lifestyle, health, finances… you know, all the regulars. To get to that there would be mini goals and markers along the way obviously. To move back to the cities had been one of them and going into the 2nd month of being back I would decide whether to stay in Queensland or move on to the next city on the list. So June included…

Goals:   Explore more of the city. Decide to move on or not – and if yes, go Unit hunting. Finalise old business.

One of the best things I did when I first got here was sign up for the council updates. I highly recommend it if your council area offers this service. I can’t vouch for everyone’s Council obviously but these guys were a wealth of information on public transport options, local events, current and future plans, information and contacts, available services in the area, interest groups etc. If you haven’t already …  try it. This alone helped me see the possibilities of this city and helped me find events and services or explore current areas of interest and consider others. Long story short. I decided I would really love to hang in this City for a while and so next thing on the Agenda was hunting for a place to live.

I was dreading the whole process as I’m sure most of you know what a pain it can be. In the end, it took only one week and 3 inspections to find our place and start that ball rolling. Signing paperwork and packing. We’d be moving in July so we didn’t have that long to wait and I was catching up on old business while I waited. Contact and address updates, overdue tax etc … all the boring stuff that needs to be done to keep the wheels of life running along relatively smoothly.

Highlight of the Month:  Going to the Green Heart Fair. A bi-annual Sustainability event that had soooo many of the things that appeal to my wee little heart. Plants and good healthy food.  Good not so healthy food. The pulled pork loaded fries & choc/nut dipped soft serve was awesome and I regret nothing! Education and information talks. Worm Farms. Local providers, services, growers, bee keepers, organics. Fun for the kids and the adults. Live music and a giant Green Heart Mascot.  If it was sustainability related, you name it and it was probably there. My tribe was living and thriving in this area. Lol. I couldn’t have been happier to find them. That along with finding the local farmers markets were major selling points.

Over to you community. What have you all been up to this month.

Next stop… July.
